The fast of Tisha B'av, the saddest day in the Jewish calendar, commemorates the destruction of the first and second Temples over 1900 years ago. Tisha B'av reflects the suffering and tragedy of Jewish history throughout the ages. More importantly, however, is its lesson of hope and renewal, as we are sure to rise from the ashes of misfortune to rebirth and rejuvenation. The Talmud teaches that within the Tisha B'av experience, are sown the seeds of the final redemption and it is with this spirit that we observe this day. At this auspicious time , we should increase in charity and mitzvos, acts of goodness and kindness that will surely hasten the coming of Moshiach speedily in our days.
